Your Inner Child Holds the Keys
by: Jac Kalea Patio, HHP
I want to share with you more about someone really important.
Someone you might not have thought about in a long time, or maybe you think about her (or him) every single day.
Someone who has been waiting patiently — sometimes not so patiently — for you to turn around and really see them.
Your inner child.
I've been pulled to write about this for weeks now. So many of you have been showing up in sessions with the same theme rising to the surface — a part of you that feels shut down, abandoned, unintegrated, like she's standing on the outside of your life looking in. And I want you to know something before we go any further:
Your inner child is not a wound to manage. She is the original frequency of your gifts.
Read that again, beautiful soul. Read it slowly.

The Spark That Said I'll Take This On
When your soul came into your body — at the moment of your first breath, sometimes a bit before — it brought with it a spark. That spark is your inner child. She's the one who anchored your divine gifts in. She's the one who looked at this whole big planet and said, "I'll take this on. I'll see like God. I'll carry the wisdom until they remember."
That's how brave she is. That's how brave you are.
The inner child holds the frequency of your gifts before they were shaped by external everything. Before the trauma. Before the societal conditioning. Before the well-meaning adult who told you that you were "too much" or "too sensitive" or "too quiet" or "too weird." She holds the unfiltered, untainted, unconditioned version of you. The one who saw spirits in the bedroom and didn't think it was weird because, well — they were right there.
The imagination she still carries? That's not a cute childhood phase. Imagination is spiritual receptivity. It hasn't been filtered through logic yet. That's why so much truth lives hidden in plain sight in fiction and fantasy and "made up" stories — because consciousness pours through children freely, and they don't know yet to question it.
Your inner child is your direct line to source. And if you've been struggling with your gifts feeling dim, blocked, distant, or just off — this is almost always where I start when I look.
When the Inner Child Gets Wounded
Here's what happens when she gets shut down.
She separates. She splinters off from the whole. She becomes unintegrated — almost as if she's been rejected by the rest of you. And when she's not integrated, you can't fully embody your wholeness, no matter how much you affirm it, no matter how many crystals you put on your altar.
I see this so often, and I lived it myself. Many of us who came in with strong spiritual gifts were diminished instead of uplifted. Made to feel small. Made to feel like we didn't have a voice. Every time we spoke our truth, it was misinterpreted, misunderstood, or completely shut down — so we learned to stop. We had to, for safety. And that little one inside of us learned that being herself wasn't safe.
The patterns that get formed in those moments? They follow us. They become the running-when-things-get-scary, the shutting-down-when-we-don't-understand-something, the dimming-our-light-before-anyone-asks-us-to. They become the inner authority voices that aren't even ours — voices of mean parents, dismissive teachers, frightened ancestors. And the inner child, bless her heart, doesn't actually know whether or not those voices belong to her. She just knows they're loud.
This is the work, beloveds. This is why we do it.
Becoming Her Authority Now
Here's the beautiful thing — and this is what I want you to really hold onto. Once you're mature enough to do the work, you get to become the authority for her.
If she had a mean mom, you get to become the soft, sweet mom now. If she had a critical father, you get to be the wise, kind father now. If there was no one safe at all, you get to be the soul, the angel, the guardian, the voice of God itself. Whoever the child needed — that is the voice you now choose. The inner child doesn't actually know it isn't your mom or dad or whoever. If you come in with the energy of higher authority, with the body's wisdom and the soul's path supporting you, you can reprogram those old voices completely.
In the work I do, I most often use the voice of the soul — because the soul carries eternal love for the inner child. Always. The soul remembers that this child was the brave one who anchored the divine gift in. The soul doesn't forget.
So I want to ask you right now, with so much love:
Who would you have wanted to take care of that little one?
Whose voice do you want to be the authority inside of you?
Sit with it. Don't rush past the question. The answer matters.
Two Questions to Begin the Dialogue
If you don't know where to start with your inner child, or if you've tried before and felt like you couldn't quite reach her — Jess shared two questions on the podcast that I want to pass on to you, because they crack something open. They're simple but they're surgical:
What did you know that the adults around you didn't believe?
What did you stop sharing because it wasn't safe?
These two questions will lead you straight back to your gifts. Straight back to what you knew before the world told you to forget. So many of us — especially those who walked through trauma — had to put up blocks. I don't want to remember this. And in doing so, we forgot pieces of our own divinity along the way.
You can journey back. Time is one of the most beautiful things we have access to as souls. You can go back to that memory, that age, that closet (yes, mine was actually a closet — that's a story for another day), and you can witness what happened from above the bubble — held in a beautiful pocket of light, with a guardian you love and trust by your side. You don't jump back into the time. You go back to the time. You witness, you heal, you observe, and you bring her home.
A Note on Programming (Especially Now)
I have to say this part because it's loud in my heart.
Our children today — and the inner children inside of us — are being programmed at a level we have never seen before in human history. The kids growing up now don't have the same buffer I had. There's so much that is inorganic, so many thoughts and beliefs being installed that don't come from their own divine nature and essence. The flood is real, beloveds.
So as you do this work for yourself, please know — you are doing it for the lineage. You are doing it for the future. You are doing it for the children of this world, who are so vital. The child energy is meant to be loved and protected like you swaddled them and never stopped — not in a smothering way, but in a way that says, I love you so much. I am going to make sure you are so protected. You are sacred. What you carry is special.
That's what we say to ourselves now. Out loud. As often as we need to.

A Practice
I want to leave you with a simple version of the activation we did on the podcast. Find a cozy space. Press pause on everything else. If you want to do this in full, with light language and the deeper guided meditation, please tune into Episode 28 of the Soul Essence Podcast — where I lead the full process. But for now, just this:
Take a big breath in. Sigh it out.
Allow the top of your head to open up in divine connection through your crown chakra. Call your soul down to be present with you. Feel the light you carry. Acknowledge it. Ask it to acknowledge you.
Imagine the color orange surrounding you — beautiful, warm, clearing. Allow your senses to safely expand.
Now say to yourself: I am safe to be who I am here. I'm allowed to shine as the light that I am. I align to the truth of who my inner child really is and the divine uniqueness she carries.
Allow your inner child to come up and meet your soul. Greet her with a hello and a hug. Notice how she's feeling.
Then say the words: "I am here with you. You are safe with me. This is the light that you carry — we call it the soul. What do you think? Do you like it?"
Let her explore. Let your soul whisper to her: You are so deeply loved by me. You were created for goodness, for peace, for happiness, for love, and for trust. You are divine in nature. I allow you to spark in creativity and wonder forever. I let you feel good all the time, because I am here loving and supporting you.
Stay as long as you need.

A Final Word, From My Heart to Yours
I want you to know that my own inner child is healed. It took years. It took journeying back into closets and conversations and timelines I didn't want to revisit. It took finding my own voice for her after living with voices that weren't mine. And she gives me, now, so many of the spiritual wisdoms and gifts I carry. She holds my connection to source so strongly. She is the part of me that sees.
She can be that for you too.
If you have spiritually gifted children in your life — please, please foster them. Find them teachers who actually understand. Don't let them be diminished the way we were. The world needs their light kept on.
And if you are doing the inner child work right now, in whatever stage you're in — I'm so proud of you. This is some of the bravest work a soul can do. You are not just healing yourself. You are healing the lineage behind you, the children around you, and the future you're walking toward.
You are the divine spark. You always were.
I love you so much.
